I am a Retail Manager by profession of 27 years’ experience. Currently I employ over 50 staff, several of which have various learning difficulties or disabilities. In the retail trade, I think it is very easy to overlook employing staff with disabilities, but feel this is actually to the detriment of employers, as many have a lot to offer and bring a unique experience to a team.
I am father to two girls, Mariah and Shannon at Mary Rose Academy. Both girls are in secondary and I have seen them really grow and develop while in the school. I believe the school has done a great job in preparing the girls for adult life, and will continue to do so, but also see it is a partnership, and that as parents, we also have a responsibility to support the school in mentoring our children.
It is with this in mind I felt it right to become a governor of the Academy. I want to help the Academy give the best provision possible for all the children coming through their doors. I also believe it is right that parents have a real voice, and know it is challenging for many to do this, with their own busy schedules, so would like to be a real representative for all to be able to voice their opinions through, within the Academy. If you ever see me picking up the girls, please stop to have a chat.
