I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was in school many, many years ago. The main reason being that I love working with pupils and being part of their lives is a real honour.
My teaching career spans over 33yrs in a variety of authorities- Dudley , Southampton and Portsmouth. A large part of that time has been spent in the Nursery and Early Years Setting both as a teacher and being in a management role. Then in a number of primary schools and Language Units.
My personal highlights have been working with Dr. David Weikart author of the Highscope approach to learning. HighScope's educational approach emphasizes “active participatory learning.” Active learning means students have direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas. The children's interests and choices are at the heart of HighScope programs. Also I had the opportunity to be part of the The Reggio Emilia approach to learning.
I thoroughly enjoy my key stage role working as part of Mary Rose Team and the amazing opportunities to work with and learn from other colleagues.
What excites you about your role within the Academy?
I continue to be enthusiastic about own my teaching and that learning is a lifelong process. I value the opportunities to continue this journey at MRA. I thoroughly enjoy the times that I can work in a supporting role with trainee teachers. My role is to provide guidance and mentoring. For me personally it makes me much more reflective about my own teaching and benefits both the student teacher and pupils.
