A fantastic time on the Wet Wheels trip!

A fantastic time on the Wet Wheels trip!

Stingray had a fantastic time on the Wet Wheels trip. They were able to go on a power boat which was accessible for wheel chairs. They went for a trip around GunWharf Harbour, out into open water and then were able to have a go at piloting. Denim made sure the skipper knew what he was doing, informing him when they needed to go faster. Chanay loved feeling the waves and getting very wet. Grace and Theo were the fastest hitting an impressive 31 knots. Many thanks to Wet Wheels who generously provided this trip for our pupils free of charge.

Governors Meeting – June 2017

Governors Meeting – June 2017

Last week some very special visitors came in to meet with our school council (Shout) to ask them about their future hopes and dreams. Shout were surprised to find Spiderman, a Stormtrooper, a giant bunny, Stephanie from Lazy Town, a banana and a turkey waiting for them in the meeting room! Our governors had decided to dress up in fancy dress for the meeting to show the pupils their alter egos! The pupils had prepared photographs to help them to talk about their hopes for the future. Abbie said that next year she would like to do more writing and improve her handwriting. When she leaves school, she would like to help others and teach others new things. Abbie recently visited Portsmouth College where she had the chance to teach signing to pupils from other schools who were attending a workshop there. Garth said that next year he would like to stay with his friends in Discovery. When he is older he would like to play with computers. Scott said that next year he would like to stay with his friends in Wembley, go on holiday and go to Beechside. When he is older he would like to have a job, maybe working in Tesco. Scott had recently been able to speak to pupils who had been on work experience in Tesco. The governors were really impressed with how much the pupils had thought about their ideas and how some of them had started to make some of these things possible already.

A special day out on the water!

A special day out on the water!

On Friday 12th May Turtle Class were invited to a special day out on the water. We all went to Langstone Harbour to meet our crew and see our boats. In each boat there were two Turtle pupils and they were all very excited! Our theme this term is ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ so it was a great opportunity to look for all the sea creatures we have been learning about. Ben and Grace saw lots of seagulls and kept looking out for fish in the sea. Harry, Jayden and Alisha took it in turns with the crew to help sail the boats to West Witterings. Arthur was helping them navigate and loved pressing all the buttons on the navigation system. Everyone sailed to West Witterings where we had our packed lunch. When we stopped we saw lots of boats with pupils from different schools. Isaac and Maddison enjoyed waving and saying hello them. After lunch we got to see the sails moving and sailed in the wind back to the harbour. We all had a fantastic day and definitely found our sea legs!

A Hat Fit To Meet The Queen!

A Hat Fit To Meet The Queen!

During Friday’s assembly we held a contest for classes to design a hat for Alison for her trip to meet the Queen on 28th Feb to receive her OBE. Each class entered at least one hat for Alison to try on, these were then shortlisted for pupils to choose the winner. The hats were extremely creative and showcased the talents of our pupils perfectly! We had lots of hats based on the school logo, one had ten clues about Alison hidden inside, one had a poem to read and some were very sensory with lots to touch, smell and hear! The three shortlisted hats with a short description were: Discovery – The class had used each pupil’s photograph, included as part of a 3d wire rose sculpture. Seahorses – Ten sensory roses of all sizes, shapes and textures presented in a golden presentation box. Adventure – Stylist and elegant felt hat with a side decoration in school colours. The three hats were voted for by pupils using a ‘clapometer’. (Whichever hat got the most noisy reception won!) The final positions were: 1st - Adventure Class 2nd – Seahorse Class 3rd – Discovery Class Well done everyone, we look forward to seeing the photos from the palace!

Big Schools Birdwatch!

Big Schools Birdwatch!

In assembly today we learnt about Big School’s Birdwatch, an event run by the RSPB. We’ve decided to try and encourage as many birds as possible into our school playground. We thought carefully about the types of food birds might like to eat. During assembly we made bird feeders, we mixed together all of the nice things birds eat. On Monday morning each class will be placing the feeder they made outside and watching out for visitors.
