The Mary Rose 2016 Prom was an absolutely fantastic event which shows how well we all know how to party! We applauded the achievements of our students, in particular our leavers all of whom had gained a wide range of qualifications and accreditation including BTEC’s for the first time - so we really did have a great reason to celebrate.
The sun was shining and the field was set up ready for our Mary Rose Sports Day! Pupils and staff made their way down to the field in great anticipation for a fantastic day! We were pleased to also welcome lots of Young Leaders from Milton Cross and Redwood Park School and lots of parents, grand-parents, carers and friends!
Don’t forget to purchase your BBQ Tickets for Saturday 18th June. Raffle tickets are selling, but we can’t raise the funds without the support of family, friends and the local community. Please see our facebook page “Mary Rose Academy Raffle” for prize updates and info. Please return any sold/unsold raffle tickets to Mary Rose Academy by Friday 17th June. We also have a just giving page.
Assembly on Fri 20th May was preparation for ‘Go canoeing week’ where the national challenge is for all schools in England to paddle a combined distance of 30 000 miles to Rio, where the Olympics will be held this summer. Assembly started by learning how to say ‘hello’ in Portuguese. It is an easy one to remember…’Oi’.
UKSA – Monday 9th – Friday 13th May 2016 We were all very excited to be packed up and heading to UKSA for this year’s sailing residential! We boarded the ferry to Fishbourne and enjoyed exploring the deck and watching the sea and passing boats. We then drove to Ryde for a picnic lunch on the seafront. Tony, Aymene, Bradley, Billy, Jordan and Alex really enjoyed exploring the sandy beach.
On Thursday May 12th, The Pompey Pluckers, a Portsmouth based group who love playing the ukulele, visited our school to perform to the pupils. There were two performances one for the EYFS and Primary pupils and the second for Secondary and 6th Form. They played songs that were aimed at both age groups and the response from our pupils was amazing! They all loved the group, evident by lots of dancing, singing, clapping, smiles and laughter!
In the build up to this year’s Olympic Games due to be held in Rio we were really excited to hold our theme day based on our journey to the games. Our day began with pupils entering the ‘airport’ for check in as they travelled down the runway to their class rooms. We then had our inflight checks, safety briefing and take off in our opening assembly!
Pioneer have had an amazing term and there is more amazingness to come! Students were very fortunate to be able to access the Fort Purbrook facility for a block of problem solving and team building. Students had a great time and as if that wasn’t enough, this block has been followed by a half term of kayaking at North Harbour lakes. In their other PE lessons with Paul and Amber on a Friday, students have been working hard to learn about training plans and fitness.
For Wembley Class our Spring Term felt very cultural. Our theme of Art and Invention opened many doors to new experiences. Visits to Museums and Galleries across Portsmouth allowed us to try see the world through the eyes and thoughts of others. We enjoyed a wide range of arts and crafts from around the world at the Portsmouth Museum. We spent a considerable amount of time in the Guildhall.
