A Walk Through The Decades Today was the day of our Annual Mary Rose Academy Sponsored Walk! This year we decided on the theme of A Walk Through the Decades with each area of the school dressing up in the theme of a different decade. EYFS and Key Stage 1 dressed up as the 1980’s, Key Stage 2 as the 1990’s, Key Stage 3 as the 1970’s, Key Stage 4 as the 1960’s and 6th Form as the 00’s.
Today in Assembly we celebrated National Grandparents Day. We were very pleased to be joined by nearly 50 Grandparents and Great Grandparents, the hall was packed. During the week pupils have been thinking about how Grandparents help us and wanted to say thank you. Our thank you was to sing lots of our favourite songs to the visiting Grandparents and to give each of them a personalised thank you card.
I hope that you all had a good summer break, enjoyed the good weather and had some quality time with your children. I’d like to extend a special welcome to all new pupils, parents and staff. This year Mary Rose is celebrating its 10th anniversary. We’ve started to plan a range of exciting birthday themed events for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
On 16th July two members of staff from the Mary Rose Academy left the UK for an exciting visit to our partner school in Ghana. The School, New Horizon Special School, is very similar to Mary Rose in terms of the pupils it caters for. Both Jess and Caroline found that it became more than just a school over the two weeks they were there.
At the end of the year we celebrated the achievements of our primary pupils and also said goodbye and good luck to our primary leavers in our ‘Leavers and Achievers’ presentation. This year our primary leavers were Kwan, Joel and Gavin. We wish them the best of luck for their big move to our secondary department and hope that they continue to enjoy their learning up at the other end of the school.
Our Summer show this year focused on the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Classes teamed up to bring together special and exciting moments from a range of blockbuster Hollywood movies. These included Finding Nemo, Slumdog Millionaire, Shrek, Jaws, Mary Poppins, Greece and Toy Story, just to name a few. The school was transformed into a film set including a VIP area for a few visiting divas who were photographed by crowds of paparazzi.
We met bright and early at the Guildhall in Portsmouth after making it through to the Southern Region Final for Rock Challenge 2016. Students and staff were very excited as we entered the auditorium ready for our big day! There was a great atmosphere as we enjoyed meeting and dancing with lots of other students from across the south of the UK.
The Mary Rose 2016 Prom was an absolutely fantastic event which shows how well we all know how to party! We applauded the achievements of our students, in particular our leavers all of whom had gained a wide range of qualifications and accreditation including BTEC’s for the first time - so we really did have a great reason to celebrate.
The sun was shining and the field was set up ready for our Mary Rose Sports Day! Pupils and staff made their way down to the field in great anticipation for a fantastic day! We were pleased to also welcome lots of Young Leaders from Milton Cross and Redwood Park School and lots of parents, grand-parents, carers and friends!
