This week in assembly Mary Rose celebrated St George’s Day. We started off with a fantastic performance from pupils in Wembley class who acted out the story of George and the dragon. This was set against a backdrop from a sleepy Old English village, the pupils had made some great costumes and I’m pleased to say they managed to protect the villagers from the menacing dragon. The short play focused on the importance of friendship and helping others within the community.
In February we celebrated the Chinese New Year – the year of the monkey. Before assembly on Friday the pupils were very busy making monkey masks, dragons figures and lanterns. This helped us to explore key symbols from the Chinese culture. Assembly then began with a huge parade to celebrate the coming of the new year. We danced and paraded around to display the things we had made whilst fireworks exploded on the screen behind us.
