Filskit Theatre group have worked with a number of classes this year at Mary Rose to develop a production specifically for pupils with SEN. Turtles and Sealion class were lucky enough to be invited to their first performance of their production Kaleidoscope at the New Theatre Royal.
‘Kaleidoscope’ was a sound and light show the captured the engagement of many of the pupils. With the lights changing in sequence pupils could begin to predict what was going to happen next however there were a few surprises. Pupils and staff were encouraged to join in with the actions of the performers and comment on what they could see e.g. the lights changing colour.
One pupil found the performance very amusing and laughed throughout! Another pupil was fascinated by the mirrored floor and kept trying to join the performance.
At the end of the performance all the pupils were offered the opportunity to ‘stay and play’ an opportunity run by Filskit theatre group for pupils to engage with similar themed objects and items linked to the performance and explore them in their own way.
