Mary Rose School Harvest Festival – a celebration and thanksgiving

Mary Rose School Harvest Festival – a celebration and thanksgiving

A wonderful Harvest Celebration took place in our school on Friday 13th October.  We were overwhelmed by the generous contributions made by family, friends, governors and staff to New Horizons Special School in Ghana and to our local Portsmouth Foodbank.

During our assembly we followed the story of how bread is made and we each made a bread roll!  These were later baked and every pupil took one home to share with their family and friends.  We also looked at the amazing fresh vegetables that our 6th Form Horticulture Business had produced, including some giant pumpkins.  Take a look at the photographs and spot the Mary Rose pumpkin proudly held by Jordan.

We looked at photographs of our friends at New Horizons School in Ghana and thought about the differences between all the wonderful resources we have at Mary Rose and the very few resources they have there.  We raised over £100 which will be used to buy teaching resources for the school which we will send over to them shortly.

We also collected lots of food to donate to the Foodbank, and Mr Mant came along and accepted these on their behalf.  Every class in the school made up a beautiful harvest box and filled it with a range of foods.  These will be used to help out families ‘in crisis’.

Thank you to all our families, friends and staff who made such generous donations.
