Highlights on PE and Sport Spring Term 2018
We have had a very busy term in PE at Mary Rose Academy!
We were really excited to welcome the Challenge Partners review team and show them how hard we have been working to embed our excellent Outdoor Learning programmes both on site here at Mary Rose and at the Lake at North Harbour and Fort Purbrook. Pupils have been working very hard towards developing various practical skills in archery, climbing, shooting and problem solving whilst linking the activities with other subjects for example English, Maths and PSHE.
In upper and lower primary have all been doing Trampolining.
We have been learning how to get on and off safely, bounce in the middle and how to stop and start bouncing.
Some pupils have tried bouncing on different body parts, other have been learning shape jumps and some even started to learn to sequences. It has been great fun and everyone has tried really hard, even if they have been a bit nervous.
In secondary we have been working on our outdoor adventure skills.
Adventure, Discovery and Victory Class have been Orienteering around the school site. Each week their knowledge and understanding has been stretched and stretched. They are all know navigating around Mary Rose using a map to find the orienteering markers, and lots of them are working independently.
Warrior and Fearless Class have successfully completed several orienteering courses, team Challenges and have loved moving through and being inside the ‘caves’ in the hall.
The KS4 Sport and Leisure group have visited local areas to Orienteer and Geocache. Not one of them got lost...so they have definitely made excellent progress!
Mayflower, Wembley and Seahorse have been improving their rebound and Trampolining skills, and have enjoyed learning seat drops and different shapes in the air.
Invincible class have also enjoyed taking part in some football coaching sessions with FA coach Mick and worked on developing their team work, communication and ball control skills!
We have also been taking part in lots of Festivals and events including an Inclusive Leadership Camp at Mountbatten Leisure Centre, running our very own Key Stage 2 ASC Sports Festival here at Mary Rose, Panathlon, Sports Hall Athletics, VI Football Festival and Multi-Sport ball skills festival.
For Sport Relief we all took part in a whole school Triathlon which included swimming, cycling and team challenges during the week in our lessons to complete a Mile and then with a grand finale in our Teams – Earth, Ocean, Sun and Fire completing a sponsored walk/run/wheel!! We had a great day and raised a massive £385!!!
Thank you and well done to everyone who has taken part in PE with such great enthusiasm, effort, determination and passion this term!!
