In the build up to this year’s Olympic Games due to be held in Rio we were really excited to hold our theme day based on our journey to the games. Our day began with pupils entering the ‘airport’ for check in as they travelled down the runway to their class rooms. We then had our inflight checks, safety briefing and take off in our opening assembly!
Everyone looked fantastic in their outfits representing each continent.
EYFS and Key Stage 1 – Australia
Key Stage 2 – Africa
Key Stage 3 - America
Key Stage 4 – Asia
Key Stage 5 – Europe
Pupils then collected their passports and made their around the world to visit to each continent before landing in Rio.
Classes collected their passports and took part in a wide range of work shops throughout the day.
In Australia groups visited the Great Barrier Reef and enjoyed diving in the crystal clear water exploring the wild life. Pupils also enjoyed investigating sand, wetsuits and trying out our very own Surf Simulator!!
Upon arrival in Africa pupils explored jungle environments, enjoyed meeting a range of animals with Reptylers including Tarantulas, Chameleons, Snakes and a Skinny Pig!ll
In America pupils were put through their paces with an American Football team practicing their speed, agility and ball skills on the MUGA!
A Taste of Asia gave pupils the opportunity to have a go at making real Sushi and try some traditional Thai curries. Pupils also enjoyed putting on Sumo suits and competing against their friends in the ring outdoors in the secondary playground!
Visits to Europe gave opportunities for pupils to try a continental breakfast and visit our very own Duty Free shop to test fine fragrances and try on some beautiful jewellery before relaxing with a fruit juice.
Rio Day came to its finale as we landed in our assembly in Rio ready for the summer’s Olympic Games! Everybody had a great time working together with their friends and new visitors. Pupils had lots of opportunities to take turns and developed their confidence in trying new and exciting activities!!
Well done to everyone for taking part and completing our big trip to Rio!!!
