UKSA 2016

UKSA 2016

UKSA – Monday 9th – Friday 13th May 2016 We were all very excited to be packed up and heading to UKSA for this year’s sailing residential! We boarded the ferry to Fishbourne and enjoyed exploring the deck and watching the sea and passing boats. We then drove to Ryde for a picnic lunch on the seafront. Tony, Aymene, Bradley, Billy, Jordan and Alex really enjoyed exploring the sandy beach.

We arrived at UKSA, unpacked and then began getting our wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets on ready for our water confidence session in the ‘pond’. We had great fun trying out the paddle boards, body boards and canoes! Adam, Callum and Alfie really enjoyed exploring the water and splashing their friends! After a delicious dinner we then watched a film in the cinema room before bed.

Tuesday morning began with a swim in the pool which was brilliant fun for everyone! Ryan, Jacob and Issac in particular enjoyed playing on the floats. After lunch we got our water proofs and buoyancy aids on and went on a river trip to Newport in the Ribs and Pilot Boat. Bradley and Issac showed great skill and really enjoyed taking a turn at steering the boats! Our evening activity was crabbing! We worked together with the UKSA staff to see how many we could catch! Our grand total was 17!! Tony was very brave and even picked up the crabs he caught to return them to the water!

Wednesday brought our Keel boat trip across the Solent to Haslar for a picnic lunch at Hardy’s! We were able to get the sails out and have a go at ‘proper’ sailing which was brilliant! Callum, Alex and Jacob particularly enjoyed taking a turn at steering the Keel boats and all enjoyed taking in the views of the Spinnaker Tower as we reached Gosport! When we arrived back at UKSA we showered and then took a stroll into Cowes for a Fish and Chip tea which was lovely in the sunshine!

Thursday’s activities included a kayak trip up the river which was brilliant fun with pupils and staff engaging in water fights and swimming! In the afternoon we tried our hand again at paddle boarding, canoeing and explored the windsurf boards. In the evening we were able to have another go at crabbing and then take a turn in the games room ‘50* North’ where we could watch films, play pool, table hockey, table football and dance!

Friday morning came way to quickly as we packed the bus and said good bye to our excellent instructors, Jake, Enya, George, Harry and Inti. Thanks again to UKSA and all the students and staff who supported and made the trip so much fun!
