Numeracy
At Mary Rose Academy we recognise that thinking mathematically begins long before numbers are introduced.
Many learners on our Shore and Reef pathways are developing the foundational knowledge, skills and understanding to think mathematically. We call these the ‘Maths Roots’. The principles of the approach are informed by Les Staves and his book Very Special Maths.
Across Bay, Cove and Crest Pathways we support our learners to develop understanding of early maths concepts and apply these to real world functional life skills. E.g. laying a table, sorting household items by a given criteria, reading the time and measuring ingredients in a recipe.
